Continued Learning

I am really enjoying this book...Marking Your Kids For God. It's older, but still has very valid points. I told my husband that it's like getting an outline for so many of the vague parenting principles I've always had in my mind. Today's lesson was about discipline and open, honest conversations -it's our responsibility...not the school, not the church, not their friends...ours.
On another note I was really grumpy with the boys today. Just because I wasn't feeling good doesn't make that an excuse. I came to my senses late in the afternoon and will be much better tomorrow. I think how I start my days makes a lot of difference. What do you do to start your day? I am looking for a more effective routine.

What I've learned today

I was reading today about children raising children. The book I was reading talked about how children are arrows. It then went on to talk about the work that goes into making an arrow...how you don't just cut the green branch off the tree and shoot the arrow out of that. It said that the branch had to be honed and formed. It needs to be molded and then marked so you know it's yours. Helping your children to become vital tools in this world takes work. You can't just stand by and expect them to be all that they were designed to be if they haven't been molded and formed. They will not fly straight and true if they haven't been taught the right way to go.
This is hard work I'm learning about. As a parent you are responsible to train up your child in the way they should go. I have made a commitment to this life and cannot slack off. My life is not my own.
