Continued Learning

I am really enjoying this book...Marking Your Kids For God. It's older, but still has very valid points. I told my husband that it's like getting an outline for so many of the vague parenting principles I've always had in my mind. Today's lesson was about discipline and open, honest conversations -it's our responsibility...not the school, not the church, not their friends...ours.
On another note I was really grumpy with the boys today. Just because I wasn't feeling good doesn't make that an excuse. I came to my senses late in the afternoon and will be much better tomorrow. I think how I start my days makes a lot of difference. What do you do to start your day? I am looking for a more effective routine.

  1. I struggled with the morning routine for so long - I'm totally not a morning person! Now, that I've really established a good routine most days start out great, no matter how a kid gets up, or whatever other circumstance going on!

Days I don't need to get the kids up and going, I get up when Jacob is up getting ready for work, and just hang out with the kids and him for a bit. Then I get them breakfast and I do my Bible reading and prayer time while they eat. I don't want this time to be something I hide from my kids, so every morning they know they get to eat quietly while Mommy reads the Bible. It's a huge bonus if I get up before the kids and can spend more time in the word and prayer. I wanted a realistic routine for me & not being a morning person I knew I wouldn't get up early every morning!

Days I do need to get the kids going just means I get up and squeeze showering, dressing, setting out clothes, packing snacks/lunches ... whatever needs to be done so we can make a quick exit!

I really try super hard never to miss a day in the Word and prayer. It makes such a huge difference. I have an accountability partner/friend and we get together once a week to discuss our readings, to pray, and just be there for each other. We also pick verses to memorize and practice those with each other.

I would like to incorporate some prayer time with Jacob in the morning and just more structured discussion of our day and things we're facing. For one reason or another it just hasn't clicked yet.

sorry for the book of a comment!
